Check Your Tire Pressure Monthly

Tire pressure changes with temperature fluctuations, which is why checking your tires at least once a month is essential. Underinflated tires wear faster on the edges and reduce fuel efficiency, while overinflated tires wear excessively in the center and provide a harsher ride. Check your tire pressure when tires are cold—before driving or at least three hours after your vehicle has been driven. Look for the recommended pressure in your vehicle's door jamb or owner's manual, not the maximum pressure listed on the tire sidewall.

Inspect Tread Depth Regularly

The penny test is a quick way to assess tread depth. Insert a penny into the tread grooves with Lincoln's head upside down. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, your tread is too shallow and replacement should be considered. Legal minimum tread depth is 2/32 of an inch, but safety experts recommend replacing tires at 4/32 of an inch, especially if you frequently drive in wet conditions.

Rotate Your Tires Every 5,000-7,000 Miles

Tire rotation ensures even wear across all four tires. Front tires typically wear faster due to steering and braking forces. Rotating them side-to-side and front-to-back promotes uniform tread wear and extends tire life significantly. Watch for Signs of Damage

Regularly inspect all four tires for punctures, bulges, cracks, or uneven wear patterns. Uneven wear often indicates alignment issues that should be addressed promptly. Bulges or blisters suggest structural damage and require immediate replacement. Small punctures in the tread can often be repaired, but sidewall damage is dangerous and necessitates replacement.

Get Wheel Alignments When Needed

Proper wheel alignment affects how your tires wear and how your vehicle handles. If you notice your vehicle pulling to one side or if you see uneven tire wear patterns, schedule an alignment check. This simple procedure prevents premature tire wear and improves vehicle handling.
